On May 27, 2024, Digital Time Communications conducted its 10th SAFER Project event at the Government Polytechnic Institute in Sukkur, Sindh. Targeted at young men aged 18-30, the event aimed to raise awareness about the risks of irregular migration to Europe while showcasing local opportunities in skills development, job placement, and enterprise growth.

Event Highlights:

  • Speakers: Legal expert Mr. Wajid Ali and Belgium-based Pakistani researcher Aqeel Ahmed addressed migration challenges, emphasizing both the risks and potential in Pakistan. The speakers’ use of local languages, Urdu and Sindhi, helped foster audience connection and understanding.
  • Audience: Around 50 participants, including young men, some female community members, and parents, engaged actively by asking questions and participating in discussions.
  • Topics Covered: Key topics included the dangers of irregular migration, career opportunities in Pakistan, cultural challenges in Europe, scams by unreliable agents, and preserving cultural identity abroad.
  • Youth Engagement: The participants, especially youth, showed interest in building relevant skills, inquired about legal migration options, and explored resources for capacity building within Pakistan.

Recommendations and Impact:

Positive feedback suggested a need for more frequent events, rural outreach, and collaboration with vocational and training centers to better inform young Pakistanis about safe migration pathways and local career possibilities.

This event furthered the SAFER Project's mission by connecting youth with knowledge, resources, and practical insights into migration, strengthening their decision-making through education and community engagement.
