Digital Time Communications held the 16th SAFER Project community event on August 21, 2024, in Larkana, Sindh, at the Business Community Centre, Green Palace Hall, drawing around 50 attendees. The primary aim was to educate young men (ages 18-30) on the risks of irregular migration to Europe and to promote alternative opportunities in Pakistan, such as skill development, job placement, and entrepreneurship.
Key speakers, including migration expert Mr. Wajid Ali and diaspora member Aqeel Ahmed, emphasized the severe financial and personal dangers of illegal migration and the prevalence of scams by unreliable agents. They also highlighted various career development pathways within Pakistan, presenting them as safer, more sustainable alternatives to risky migration.
The audience, largely composed of young men, was actively engaged and interested in enhancing employable skills locally. They were introduced to support resources like vocational training centers, the Migration Resource Centre, and the Parvaaz campaign for ongoing information. The session featured insights into local opportunities and challenges faced abroad, especially with integration issues, racism, and religious accommodations.
Community engagement was boosted through targeted outreach in Larkana, including partnerships with vocational institutions and promotion via social media, local businesses, and radio. Participant feedback indicated that the session was eye-opening, with many expressing interest in exploring legal migration routes and leveraging opportunities in Pakistan. The event was a successful step toward raising awareness and empowering youth to make informed decisions.
